Important Shipping Update for
Our U.S. Customers

Dear U.S.-based Yarnians,

As of August 29, 2025, the United States has changed its customs rules. The previous $800 duty-free allowance (called “de minimis”) has been removed by the U.S. government.

What this means for you
-
Most parcels arriving from outside the U.S. —no matter the value—may be subject to U.S. customs duties and processing fees. HOWEVER . . .
-
For orders valued under $100 USD:
-
Small value orders (currently under $100 USD) sent as gifts are exempt from U.S. Customs charges and administration fees. If sent as purchases, then duty charges can be applied. See below for suggestions on how to work around this.
-
-
For orders valued over $100 USD:
-
Orders valued over $100 USD are NOT exempt, and will be charged the import duty and an administration fee. Currently, this import value is 15% of the order value for items coming from Ireland (and the rest of the European Union).
-
-
Delivery times may also take a little longer as parcels are processed through customs - especially considering the de minimis allowance had been in place for decades, so this is a major change for U.S. customers.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO
-
All customers MUST provide us with a valid email address at the time of your order as this is how you will be contacted by AnPost postal service in order to pay the customs and administration fee.
-
For orders that qualify for customs charges (over $100 USD in value) customers will be required to pay the customs and admin fee WITHIN FIVE CALENDAR DAYS of receiving their email notification from either An Post or U.S. Customs, or they will be returned to Republic of Yarnia.
-
IMPORTANT: If a parcel's customs charge is not paid within 5 calendar days, and the item is returned to Republic of Yarnia, the shipping fee is not reimbursed by An Post. As a result, if items are returned to sender for non-payment, we will contact you by email and you will have to option to either:
-
1 ) have us re-send the parcel to you, but you will have to re-pay the shipping charges.
-
2 ) cancel the order and forfeit your payment, as completed orders are non-refundable.
-
What doesn’t change
-
Our product prices and shipping rates remain the same.
-
Republic of Yarnia makes no profit from any shipping fees.
-
We’ll continue to ship your orders promptly and provide accurate customs paperwork.
How Republic of Yarnia will try to minimise your costs
-
Orders valued at $100 USD or less will be sent as gifts to U.S. customers because currently they are exempt from this new customs charge. Simply tick the "This order is a gift" in the checkout section that the item is a gift. Gift yourself! Gift orders will not include a packing slip.
-
We will notify you by email once your parcel has been handed over to An Post (the Irish Postal Service). Once you get this notification, please keep a close eye on your email - and any spam folders - for a message from An Post regarding payment of the customs fee, which should follow in the coming days.
Please Note
-
Any customs duties, taxes, or handling fees charged by U.S. Customs are the responsibility of the buyer.
-
Unfortunately, we cannot predict the exact cost in advance, as it depends on U.S. customs classification and handling, however, we expect the costs to be 15% of the item value plus an administration fee (from the postal service) of €5.95. Please note, fees may be updated at anytime and are completely out of the control of Republic of Yarnia.
Our promise: We’ll do our best to keep you informed of any updates, and we’ll try to make the process as smooth as possible. We truly value our U.S. customers and appreciate your understanding as we all adjust to these new rules.
